Aven was born in Taloyoak, Nunavut, in Canada’s far north. Her dad built several churches and mission houses,
and translated and wrote many songs during his lifetime of ministry and mission
work. The gift of music was passed down and Aven takes great joy in following
in her Dad’s footsteps as a singer and songwriter. It’s an even greater joy to follow her heavenly Father as He leads, and the path has taken many unexpected turns! It’s always an adventure to follow Jesus! Aven invited Jesus to be her personal Saviour when she was 12, and the joy that He placed in her life immediately flowed out in songs---something she didn’t seem able to do before! It was evidence to her of the direction God was leading her in, and she has rarely missed an opportunity to sing about what God has done for her. His presence in her life has carried her through some difficult times, such as a long stretch of deep depression which has multiplied her compassion for those who suffer and has given her an unshakable confidence in God’s faithfulness and grace. God’s presence and faithfulness is also clear in Aven’s life through the healing He has done in her: He has restored her health and vitality, healed her from depression, and renewed her trust in Himself and in other people as He guided her in making peace with the past. He continues to teach her to walk every day with Him, and He is showing her each day how to love Him more and to show it in her actions. Aven seizes every opportunity to hone her skills as a songwriter and singer, and her work eventually led to her being introduced to the Country Gospel Music Association. First involved with the Saskatoon Chapter in Canada, it didn’t take long till she was involved internationally and traveling to various places in the USA and Canada to participate in CGMA events. She has been blessed to receive awards from her peers in the CGMA from the first year. These have opened many doors to sing and minister in different locations, as far away as Canada’s Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and the Philippines. From 2003 onwards, the CGMA has awarded her many times; you can find a list of these on the Awards page. Just an explanation: the Psalmist Award is given to those who sing the Scriptures, set to music. This award is dear to Aven’s heart, as it makes memorizing Scripture much easier! Aven’s last 3 CDs have also been nominated by the Saskatchewan Country Music Association for their honour of Country Gospel Album of the Year. In response to invitations Aven is in the planning stages for upcoming ministry tours, so if you’d like her to come to your area, please get in touch with her through the e-mail on this site. When she’s not on the road, Aven lives in Nipawin, Saskatchewan with her husband Tim. Their grown sons all live nearby. She is a member of Nipawin Alliance Church and participates in church family life whenever possible. She is blessed to have the support of wonderful praying people who are the backbone of this ministry team! Recently the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards were held in Nipawin, and as part of a large group of volunteers, Aven produced the Country Gospel Brunch and Showcase, where we enjoyed several Christian Country Artists on Sunday morning of the weekend event. At the heart, Aven is deeply interested in what God is doing inside the hearts of people, and a personal conversation will often lead straight to matters of the heart. Often it feels like God is using a story or a picture to tell her what He wants to convey on a spiritual level, and these ideas often translate into songs. Her prayer is that these songs will touch your heart and bring about healing, change, and joy. God is a loving Father who offers hope and grace to all of us. If you need to talk about a heart matter, please let us know, we want to pray for you. Let us be a blessing to you, and may God’s grace fill your life with joy and peace! |
