2006 Songwriter of the Year Fulltime (4 years in a row!) & 2006 Psalmist of the Year [Country Gospel Music Association, Canadian Branch.] |
Aven was born in Canada’s Far North, in Taloyoak, Nunavut, the 3rd child of missionary
parents. Her Dad built several churches and mission houses, and translated
and wrote many songs during his lifetime of ministry. The gift of
music was passed down and Aven takes great joy in following in her Dad’s footsteps
as a Singer and Songwriter. It’s an even greater joy to follow her heavenly Father as He leads, and the path has taken many unexpected turns! Aven invited Jesus to be her personal Savior when she was 12, and the joy that He placed in her life immediately flowed out in songs—something she had not seemed to have a previous ability to do! It was evidence to her of the direction God was leading her in, and she has rarely missed an opportunity to sing about what God has done for her. His presence in her life has carried her through some difficult times, such as a long stretch of deep depression which has multiplied her compassion for those who suffer and has given her an unshakable confidence in God’s faithfulness and grace. God’s presence and faithfulness is also clear in Aven’s life through the healing He has done in her: He has restored her health and healed her from diabetes, and from depression, He has renewed her trust in Himself and other people as He guided her in making peace with the past. He continues to teach her to walk daily with Him, and He is showing her each day how to love Him more and to show it in her actions. Aven takes frequent opportunities to hone her skills as a songwriter and singer, and her work eventually led to her being introduced to the Country Gospel Music Association. First involved with the Saskatoon chapter in Canada, it didn’t take long till she was involved internationally and traveling to various places in the USA to participate in CGMA events. She has been blessed to receive awards from her peers in the CGMA, and these have resulted in more open doors to sing and minister in various locations. In 2003, she received Canada’s award for fulltime Female Vocalist and fulltime Songwriter and in 2004 she again received the Fulltime award for Songwriter. In 2005 Aven recieved Fulltime Songwriter and Psalminst for 2005 for Canada from the CGMA. ( The Psalmist is an Award given for singing the Scriptures set to music.) She was also nominated for Country Gospel Album of the Year in the Saskatchewan Country Music Association. In response to invitations, Aven is in the planning stages for upcoming ministry tours, so if you’d like her to come to your area, please get in touch with When she’s not on the road, Aven lives in Nipawin, Saskatchewan with her husband and 3 rapidly growing sons (all bigger than her!). She is a member of Nipawin Alliance Church (link) and loves to participate in church family life by playing on the worship team and helping in whatever way she can. She is blessed to have the support of some wonderful praying people who are the backbone of this ministry team! At the heart, Aven is deeply interested in what God is doing inside the hearts of people, and a personal conversation will often lead straight to matters of the heart. Often it feels like God is showing her through a story or pictures, what He is saying on a spiritual level, and these ideas often translate into songs. Her prayer is that these songs will touch your heart and bring about healing, change, and joy. God is a loving Father who offers hope and grace to all of us. If you need to talk about a heart matter, please let us know, we want to pray for you. May He make your life sweeter through what we do! |
